Lenovo ThinkPad T460p Display Behaves Erratically
The display is jittery, dim, unclear, or otherwise not acting as intended.
Broken/Failing Screen
If the screen refuses to display anything when the power indicators are illuminated (exterior logo and power button light), it is possible that the screen failed and needs replacement. Physical damage or frequent use can lead to screen failure, and this part can be replaced by prying off the screen bezel and removing associated hardware/cables.
Poor/broken Display Cable
The eDP screen cable has to pass through the hinge of the laptop. After years of opening and closing it can cause the cable to break or connect poorly. If moving the lid of the laptop back and forth makes the screen intermittently work, this is likely the cause. To fix this, you pop off the screen bezel and remove the bottom plastic casing to gain access to the cable and replace/reseat as needed.
Color Calibration
If the display appears to lack contrast or is too dim, adjusting the color/display settings may help. This can be done easily using the Windows calibration tool by searching for “Calibrate display color” in the windows taskbar search. They can also be manually adjusted if you search for "Display settings" using the same method.
Update Drivers
An out of date or corrupted driver file could be a reason for the display to behave erratically. The odds of this being the issue are increased by not frequently restarting your computer while connected to WiFi, as it will not be able to scan for updates. Drivers can be easily redownloaded/updated from the Lenovo support page here: Drivers & Software.
