Lenovo Horizon 2s Troubleshooting
Released February 2015, identified by model number F0AT0002US. This troubleshooting page will help you solve issues the Lenovo Horizon 2s.
Horizon 2s Will Not Turn On
The tablet will not respond or show any sign of powering on.
Faulty Power Adapter
Ensure that the power adapter is plugged into the wall outlet and that the other end is plugged into the device. If the light on the power adapter is not on, it may be faulty. Consider getting a replacement adapter.
If the light on the power adapter is on, but the light on the device is off, the battery may need to be replaced. It is possible the connections for the battery are loose. Consider purchasing a new battery and replacing the old one using this guide.
Horizon 2s Will Not Boot
The tablet is stuck on a boot screen with the lenovo logo.
Hard Drive/Solid State Drive Error
The hard drive or solid state drive may have corrupted memory affecting the system files, making it difficult for the device to successfully boot those files. To fix this try the “Repair your computer” option in the boot menu. You can get to this menu by booting from the windows bootable USB (which can be obtained from the official Microsoft page). The drives may also be failing or have failed. If this has occurred, refer to this guide on how to replace the drives.
Horizon 2s' Screen Is Not Responding
Screen will not display or respond to touch.
Sometimes an unresponsive display may be caused by a bad driver. Try to roll back your most recent update or go to device management to update the screen drivers if possible. The device that responds to touch on the tablet may have failed. It is recommended that you consider getting a full replacement screen and using this guide to replace it.
Horizon 2s is Stuck on Lock screen
Device boots to the user’s lock screen but then becomes unresponsive.
Corrupt update or software
First, try restarting the device to make sure it’s not just a system error. Often times issues like these can be solved with a simple restart. If that doesn’t work you can try opening the windows troubleshooter application and use system restore to roll back your windows version, in case the frozen lock screen was caused by a faulty update or program. If neither of those options work, you can completely reinstall your windows operating system by following the steps in this guide.
Horizon 2s Audio is Distorted or Not Working
Sound is not being output or is distorted.
Loose Wire Connection
The plug used to connect the speaker to the motherboard may have become loose or unplugged. If this is the case, then follow this guide on how to take the tablet apart and reconnect the wire.
If no audio is being output from the device or the output audio is distorted there may be a faulty driver installed. Uninstall the current driver by opening Device Manager, expanding the Audio Inputs and Outputs section, double clicking the speakers, and uninstalling the driver. Reinstall the correct driver by going to this site and downloading it to your device.
The connection on the inside of the tablet could be loose or the speakers may have blown out. If this is the case you will need to replace the speakers. Follow the steps in this guide to replace the speakers.
Horizon 2s is Overheating
Tablet is hot to the touch, performing slowly, shutting down unexpectedly, or providing a blue screen error message.
The tablet may overheat if used on soft surfaces (i.e. blankets) that cover up vents. Using a device in places that don’t provide proper ventilation can also cause it to overheat. Make sure you are using the tablet in an area that has proper ventilation to keep the device from overheating. For instance, use it on a table or desk that provides enough space around the device for air to circulate through its internal fans.
Debris in Fans
The fan may be clogged due to excessive dust or debris. To clean the fan, take the tablet apart using this guide. Once you’ve taken the tablet apart, use a computer duster or air compressor to blow out the fans. Hit the fan in short bursts from lots of different angles, making sure to blow most frequently in the direction of the air vent. If you're using an air compressor, keep the pressure low, and don't get too close with the nozzle.
Loose Wire Connection
The plugs used to connect different components to the motherboard may be loose or unplugged, causing the device to overheat. If this is the case, then follow this guide on how to take the tablet apart and identify the wire(s) that need reconnecting.
The internal fans may not be circulating air properly because they are damaged or malfunctioning, which may be causing the device to overheat. Inadequate Thermal Paste
The processor and heat-sink may have an inadequate amount of thermal paste between them. If applied correctly, thermal paste allows heat to transfer quickly and evenly throughout the device. Follow this guide on how to take the tablet apart and identify the heat-sink. Once this step is complete, apply new thermal paste between the heat-sink and processor.
Horizon 2s Video is Distorted
Video is distorted, blurry, or discolored.
The tablet may be using an incorrect resolution. To fix this go to the Resolution settings by right-clicking the desktop and selecting “Screen Resolution.” The ideal resolution for this tablet is 1920 x 1080.
If the video is distorted there may be a faulty driver installed. Uninstall the current driver by opening Device Manager, expanding the Display Adapters section, double clicking the video card, and uninstalling the driver. Reinstall the driver by going to this website and downloading the correct driver for the device. Restart the tablet.
Horizon 2s is Experiencing Extended Boot Times/Slow Performance
Tablet is suffering from slow performance, extended boot times, frequent shutdowns, or has become completely unresponsive.
Updating the device or adding new components to it could result in any of the symptoms above. To fix the symptoms, revert the device to the state it was in before it started having issues. Remove any hardware additions added to the tablet before symptoms were noticed. To rollback an update visit this website and follow the steps.
Loose components are commonly the cause of slow performance and extended boot times. If the device was moved and then began performing slowly, reconnect or re-tighten all the components. Make sure all outer casing is properly screwed into place. Place the device back where you originally moved it from. Ensure that the stand is properly attached. If you notice burn marks on the motherboard, swollen or leaking capacitors, broken sockets, or the Power LED and Yellow Diagnostic LED are both off after powering on the device, this is an indication that the motherboard should be replaced.
