Computer Starts, but Screen Remains Blank

The computer powers on, but no image appears on the screen on Windows 10, 8.

Perform a Hard Reset

Resetting your computer can often fix a blank screen. To do this, turn off your computer and remove it from any sort of docking station or port replicator. Continue to disconnect all devices such as USB devices and printers and unplug the computer before removing the battery. With the battery and power cord unplugged, hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Continue to re insert the battery and plug in the power cord. Press the power button and the computer should start up normally.

Test the Display

If your laptop is still not working properly, connect your device to a monitor to test the display. This can be done with a VGA connector on this HP EliteBook (If monitor does not have VGA port, use an HDMI or DVI adapter depending on the monitor). If the computer screen does not display on the monitor, press F4 until it does. If the screen does not display on the monitor, then your computer either has an LCD display issue and must be taken into HP for technical support.

No Power/No Boot

Your HP EliteBook 8570w will not power on (Windows 8).

Perform a Hard Reset

Remove your computer from any sort of docking station or port replicator. Continue to disconnect all devices such as USB devices and printers and unplug the computer before removing the battery. With the battery and power cord unplugged, hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Continue to re insert the battery and plug in the power cord. Run the System Extensive Test

If a hard reset does not turn your computer on, press and hold the power button to make sure the computer is completely turned off. Then turn the computer on, immediately pressing the Esc key repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu is shown. Press the F2 key and the System Diagnostics screen should be displayed. Click "System Tests," then click "Extensive Test," and then click "Run Once." This test should then tell you what is wrong with your computer and the appropriate corresponding action to take.

Confirm AC adapter

If your computer still does not turn on, confirm the AC power adapter is an HP part by checking the labeling. Then determine the wattage by looking near the bottom of the adapter. Then check the adapter for any sort of damage. If it looks to be damaged, your adapter might require a repair/replacement. Also, verify that the wall outlet is properly functioning (do not use a power strip or an extension cord).

Defective Battery

There is a possibility that your battery may be discharged or defective. This prevents the AC power adapter from supplying enough energy to start the computer. To test this, remove the battery, then connect the power adapter to see if the computer turns on. If the LED lights glow and the computer starts, the battery will need to be replaced.
