Short battery life
The device looses power quicker than it should, or fails to hold a charge.
Apps draining background
Open the settings app and navigate to "battery" on the list. This will open a page with your remaining battery percentage in a large font as the header of the page; beneath this should be a banner telling you if your apps are running normally or not. For more information on battery usage, click the three dots in the top right corner, then "battery usage"; this will show you how much of your battery has been used by each app. Click on the three dots again and then "show full device usage" to show the total battery usage including the amount used to light the screen, run Bluetooth, etc. If there are any apps draining an excessive amount of the battery, navigate back to the opening screen of the settings app, and to "apps & notifications" on the scrolling list. From here you will be able to see the three most recently opened apps, or select "see all apps" to find the app that is draining the battery. From its page you will be able to disable it or force it to stop to decrease the battery usage.
Faulty battery
Try letting the battery die by draining it to zero percent to do a "soft reset". After, fully charge it and promptly remove it from the charger once at 100%. If it does not hold a normal charge you may need to replace the battery. This guide will show you how.
Device is slow to respond
Device does not react to user input in a timely manner, lags, or excessively buffers.
Insufficient storage space
Open the settings app. Navigate down on the list and click on "storage". From here you can select "manage storage" to open Google Files with options to free up storage space without deleting files or apps, or select any category of file to be taken to the collection of files within that category. Press and hold a file and click the trash can symbol in the top right corner to delete it.
Software glitch
Try restarting the tablet: press and hold the power button until the screen goes dark. Press and hold the power button until it comes back on. A loading screen will run until your tablet is fully restarted and ready for use.
If this doesn't work, try a factory reset: open the settings app. Scroll to the bottom of the page; choose "system". From here you'll be able to see various information about your tablet including the language and the time zone it's set in. Select "advanced", and from here "reset options", then "erase all data (factory reset). This will remove all files, apps, and customized settings from the tablet, and cannot be undone.
Malfunctioning motherboard
If restarting and resetting the tablet does not work, you may have a malfunctioning motherboard. Follow this guide to replace it.
Speaker does not work
The tablet can't produce volume on its own. Please note this does not apply to any audio devices plugged in, only the volume the tablet should provide on its own. For audio devices failing to work with the tablet, see "headphone jack doesn't work".
Sound is muted
When there is video but no sound coming from the device, first make sure it's not muted by pressing and holding the volume increase button.
Software glitch
Press and hold the power button until the screen goes dark. Press and hold the power button until it comes back on. A loading screen will run until your tablet is fully restarted and ready for use. If this does not work, try a factory reset: open the settings app. Scroll to the bottom of the page; choose "system". Select "advanced", and from here "reset options", then "erase all data (factory reset). This will remove all files, apps, and customized settings from the tablet, and cannot be undone.
Hardware issue
If sound does not play through the headphones or speakers after completing the two steps above, you may have an issue with the hardware and need to replace the internal speaker. Follow this guide to see how to replace it.
Headphone jack doesn't work
Audio devices cannot be plugged into the device, or fail to work when plugged in. The headphone jack may appear damaged, broken, misaligned, or otherwise "wrong".
Damaged headphones
Try plugging in a different pair of headphones to see if the issue is simply that your headphones are broken. You can also test this by plugging the original headphones into a headphone jack on a different device; it's possible that both are broken, so testing both is ideal.
Blockage in jack
If your headphones are intact, use a flashlight and thin piece of metal, like an unfolded paperclip, to carefully clear any dust or debris preventing the cable from making proper contact within the port. You can also use an aerosol spray duster with a needle-nose hose attachment to clean the area.
Damaged jack
If your headphone jack still isn't working, you may need to replace it. Follow this guide to learn how.
Recover frozen or unresponsive screen
Tablet screen is unresponsive
Tablet is frozen
Press and hold the power button until the screen goes dark. Press and hold the power button until it comes back on. A loading screen will run until your tablet is fully restarted and ready for use.
Corrupt operating system files/software glitch
If you're still experiencing a frozen tablet, hold the volume down button and continue to hold it once the tablet's screen goes dark. Press and hold the power button in addition to the volume down button once the screen has gone dark; the Android recovery menu will open. Use the volume keys to navigate to the factory reset setting (note: the volume up button will move the selected setting down, and the volume down button will move it up), use the power key to select, and confirm your selection. This will delete all files, customized settings, and applications from the device, and cannot be undone.
Damaged screen
If the above don't fix the issue or the screen is cracked, discolored, or only has spots where it doesn't respond to stimulus, you may need to replace the screen.
Charging port issues
Tablet won't charge or turn on
Damaged charging cable
Try a third-party micro-USB or Type-C charging cable to try to charge the tablet. If the unit starts charging the issue was due to a faulty charging cable.
Debris blocking port
Use a flashlight and thin piece of metal, like an unfolded paperclip, to carefully clear any dust or debris preventing the cable from making proper contact within the port. You can also use an aerosol spray duster with a needle-nose hose attachment to clean the area.
Faulty charging port
If the above suggestions do not solve the issue, or the charging port appears damaged, you may need to replace it.
No wireless connection
The tablet cannot connect to wireless (Wi-Fi).
Airplane mode is on
Swipe down from the top of the screen to the bottom to open a drop-down menu; if the symbol above "airplane mode" has a dark background and a white plane overlay, it is on. Click it to turn it off. You may need to turn Wi-Fi back on after this; find its toggle in the same menu and click it if it's a black symbol against a gray background to toggle it on. Press and hold the Wi-Fi symbol to open its settings, where you can double-check if it's on.
Issue with router
If the issue persists when airplane mode is off, you may have an issue with your router or Wi-Fi network. Connect another device to the network to see if it or the router is the issue.
Software glitch
Restart the tablet by pressing and holding the power button until the screen goes dark. Press and hold the power button until it comes back on. A loading screen will run until your tablet is fully restarted and ready for use.
