The camera takes black pictures
Every time you take a picture, the picture is black.
Lens cap is on
Before taking a picture make sure the silver Canon lens cover is removed.
Low Batteries
If your batteries are low then the camera will not be able to capture the necessary light to create an image.
Flash is off
If you are taking a picture in a dark area, make sure the flash is turned on so that the camera can see.
Shutter is stuck
If the camera doesn't make a clicking sound then the shutter is stuck. To fix a stuck shutter follow the Canon PowerShot G3 Stuck Shutter Fix guide.
Lens is cracked or broken
If the lens of the camera is cracked or broken then the camera will not be able to capture the light needed to take a picture. To replace the lens, follow the Canon PowerShot G3 Lens Replacement guide.
The camera flash is not working
Every time you take a picture the camera will not flash
Flash is turned off
To check if the flash is off look at the display on the top of the camera for a lightning bolt symbol. This symbol will tell you what the current flash setting is. Press the button associated with the lightning bolt image to change the flash settings.
Low Batteries
The flash of a camera operates off of a capacitor. A capacitor is an energy storing device that holds a charge when supplied by an energy source such as a battery. If the batteries are low then the capacitor will not be able to fully charge to provide the flash.
The capacitor has gone bad
If the flash is on and the batteries are fully charged, then the cause of the flash not working could be that the capacitor has gone bad. To replace the capacitor, follow the Canon PowerShot G3 Replacing the Flash Capacitor guide.
There is no sound when playing a video
When you playback a video there is no sound playing.
Low Batteries
If you batteries are low then the camera may not be able to output the audio.
Volume is turned down
You can adjust the volume of the camera by using the up/down buttons on the omni selector.
Speaker has stopped working
If the batteries are charged and the volume is turned up, then the speaker may be the cause of the problem. To replace the speaker, follow the Canon PowerShot G3 Speaker Replacement guide.
The camera will not zoom
Every time you try to zoom in or out the camera will not zoom.
Low Batteries
If your batteries are low then the camera will not be able to power the lens.
Zoom control is loose
If the zoom control is loose and will not return to its home position, then the spring may be stretched or broken. To replace the spring, follow the Canon PowerShot G3 Zoom Spring Replacement guide.
Lens zoom control is broken
If the spring in the zoom control is not stretched or broken, then the lens could have a bad zoom control inside it. To replace the lens follow the Canon PowerShot G3 Lens Replacement Guide.

Have 2 canan g3x ,first got bit wet so I thought that was the problem of zoom malfunctioning..purcgased a new one and afre few months same problem occured..what to do?

My first canong3x malfunctioned after getting bit wet..purcgased new one and it warked fine for a few 'onths than zoom started malfunctioning the same way the previous one did..what to do?

Hmmm. My photos are black, too. Battery is charged, card is good (can see other photos on the card), card is mot full, flash works fine. Now what should I do? thanks

Canon g3x won't power on with charged battery. lens stuck extended. maybe there's a clock battery that needs replacing?
