Asus Chromebook C300MA-BBCLN12 Troubleshooting
This laptop is manufactured by Asus and runs on Chrome OS. Released June, 2014.
Wi-Fi Does Not Connect
The Chromebook will not connect to a wireless network.
Disabled Wi-Fi
If the Chromebook is in a room/building where there is known to be Wi-Fi and it is not connecting, the Wi-Fi setting may be turned off. To check, click the account picture and a setting for network connection will show. If the setting says "Off," click the switch to "On" and available networks will be listed.
Defective Wi-Fi Chip
The Chromebook comes with a Wi-Fi chip that allows it to connect to Wi-Fi. If this chip is not working properly or is broken, then the Chromebook will be unable to connect to Wi-Fi. If this is the case, the Wi-Fi chip may need to be replaced.
Sound is Not Working
The sound is distorted or not working at all.
Chromebook is Muted
First, check to see if the Chromebook is muted. Press down on the keyboard key that has a speaker icon with a slash through it. You can also try turning the volume up by pressing on the key that has a speaker icon with two curves "))".
Volume is Not Set at a High Enough Level
Go to the bottom right corner of the screen and click on it. Raise the speaker slide bar by dragging it to the right until you start to hear sound.
Defective Speakers
If the volume is all the way up on the Chromebook and there is still no sound coming out, then the speakers are likely broken.
Screen is Discolored
The screen is not displaying colors properly.
Defective Brightness Keys
Try adjusting the brightness keys located at the center top of the keyboard. If the display is not responding to your keystrokes, they may need to be replaced.
Cracked Display
Visually inspect the display for physical damage such as cracks and black spots. If there is damage, the entire display will need to be replaced. For instructions on replacing the display assembly, see the following guide: (link for display replacement guide to be added here).
Display is Defective
A quick way to verify that the display is defective is by connecting the Chromebook to an external monitor. If the Chromebook displays on the external monitor, then the original display is defective. Battery is Not Charging
The battery does not charge when the power adapter is plugged in.
The Power Adapter is Not Plugged In Properly
Make sure that your power adapter cable is securely connected to your Chromebook and plugged into a functioning electrical outlet.
Charging Port Dirty or Damaged
If the Chromebook does not charge, it may be due to dust or debris in the charging port. Gently blow into the charging port to remove loose debris that may be preventing the battery from charging. If the problem persists, consider replacing the charging port.
Defective Battery

Keyboard Not Working
There are keys on the keyboard that do not work.
Keyboard May Need to be Cleaned
Power down and unplug your Chromebook. Use a compressed air duster to remove dust and debris from the cracks between the keys. Examine the keyboard for anything that may be jammed beneath or between the keys. After you finish, power up the Chromebook to see if the problem is resolved. If the keyboard is functioning but an individual key is cracked or sticking when pressed, you may need to replace the defective key. Keyboard is Defective
Plug in an external keyboard and test its functionality. If the external keyboard works with your device but the built-in keyboard does not, you will need to replace your Chromebook keyboard.
