Chromebook battery ran out of charge
Your laptop runs on battery. To make sure that the cause of the power issue is not a dead battery connect your power adapter to the laptop and try to power it on.
Too many external connections
Devices connected to your laptop like external hard drives, flash drives, a mouse, or any USB devices could contain software that is preventing your laptop from powering on correctly. Remove any external devices from the Chromebook to make sure that is not the cause of the issue.
The battery is malfunctioning

Wait 15 seconds and then reconnect the battery. If this process doesn't work, your battery may need to be replacement. Take a look at this replacement guide for help.
Faulty hardware
If you have went through these steps and your laptop still won’t power on, you may have hardware issues. If this is the case, we suggest you contact the manufacturer for further investigation.
Limited or no internet connectivity
The Chromebook is not connected to the internet and unable to access webpages, or may have a limited connection. Network connectivity error may appear on the webpage, or your Wi-Fi signal in the lower right-hand corner will contain a triangle with an exclamation point.
Wi-Fi is turned off
Chromebook may have Wi-Fi turned off or have an airplane mode on. Check the panel in the right-hand corner by selecting the Wi-Fi symbol. If Wi-Fi is turned on, your computer will search for available wireless connections. If Wi-Fi is off, the panel will provide you with an option to flip Wi-Fi on. Click the switch.
A website's server is down
Sometimes limited web access can come from the website’s server and not your Chromebook. Consider trying to connect to another website to test your connection. Alternatively, try connecting to your wireless network using a smartphone. If your phone can connect to your wireless network, but the Chromebook isn’t, it’s an issue with the Chromebook. If the second device does not detect any networks, it is a network issue.
Poor network range
Sometimes wireless signals won’t reach every corner of your house, making a Wi-Fi extender or booster necessary. To check your range, bring your device close to your router and modem. If your device connects as you approach the equipment, your issue is with your signal range and not the connection between your signal and laptop. To remedy this issue, Wi-Fi extenders may be purchased.
Chromebook needs a connectivity diagnosis
Windows computers come installed with network troubleshooting software to identify and repair network connectivity issues. Clicking on your network icon in the lower right-hand corner will provide access to this feature. If your issue isn’t resolved, continue reading.
Wi-Fi signal isn't being sent
Rebooting your router and modem typically resolves most connectivity issues. Disconnect your router and modem from the electrical outlet and leave unplugged for 30 seconds. Reconnect your router and modem and wait for your signal to return.
Wi-Fi signal will not send after reboot
Sometimes the issue just isn’t on your end. Contact your internet service provider to have them examine and reboot your network.
Chromebook battery won't charge
The Chromebook is on and plugged into an outlet but not charging. Charge display in the corner shows 0%.
Faulty power outlet
Sometimes a charger will temporarily stop working to protect itself from an issue with the power supply. Unplug the laptop, wait 5 minutes, then plug the Chromebook into a different outlet in a different room.
Faulty charging cable
A damaged cable can be the cause of the battery not charging. Examine the power cord for tears, dents, and worn-down insulation. If you see any damage on the cord, or if the power brick is damaged or smells like burnt plastic, the cord is probably faulty. You will need to purchase a new one. We suggest you check the warranty on your Chromebook before purchasing a new one.
Loose charging cable
If when you plug in your cable to the Chromebook and it is loose or not inserting fully, unplug the cable and clean the inside of the charging port with a toothpick to remove any debris or clean with a can of compressed air.
Unresponsive keys on keyboard
When a key is pressed on the Chromebook, nothing happens.
The keys are clogged in the keyboard
Shut down your Chromebook. Tilt the keyboard upside down and shake it to remove any loose debris or dirt. If you have a can of compressed air, you can spray it in between the keys as well.
The keys are dirty
Dip a cotton swab into isopropyl alcohol and brush it in the area surrounding each key. You will need to use multiple swabs, depending on the amount of dirt around the keys of your Chromebook. Dip a small area of microfiber cloth into the isopropyl alcohol, and brush it along the tops of all the keys and surfaces, taking care to scrub heavily used areas to remove buildup. Then, use a dry, microfiber cloth to remove dust and polish the keyboard. Once finished, turned the Chromebook back on.
The keys are wet or sticky
If drinks or other liquids have been spilt on the keyboard, turn the keyboard upside down to let the liquid drain out, avoiding any electrical components when it drips. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the keyboard. Wait to dry, then go ahead and turn on the Chromebook.
Damaged pixels on display
Chromebook display has missing or unclear pixels. Images appear irregular in size or shape and may be fuzzy.
Poor Wi-Fi signal

Poor or wrong resolution
The Chromebook may be under a different screen resolution setting than recommended, resulting in stretched or shrunken images. Opening the control panel, an option to adjust screen resolution will be available.
