Ever since I was little, I was fascinated by the work that my uncle was doing with everything related to Apple tech. My curiosity to explore computers really started when he gave me a real treat: an iBook G4. I thought this was the coolest gift ever. In high school, I decided to gain first-hand experience by starting a tech support business servicing people in my local area using my skills provided through my CompTIA A+ certification. Now in college, I’m a Computer Science major pursuing an eventual career in technology (not exactly sure what path to take, maybe Cyber Security?) With tech legends like @mayer and @danj, I may not be the most experienced tech genius out there, but I strive to be. Like everyone in the computer industry, I learn something new every day. Using my diagnostic skills to uncover underlying issues and help other people—that's my happy place.

Respuesta a "2009 Mac Pro won't boot with new RX 580"Mark, I figured one of the greybeards would have cranked out an answer by now, but I'll throw in a few suggestions: - Reset the SMC + PRAM (Page 26-27) - Follow the Apple Technician Guide for "No Video" (Page 49) For the tech guide, go here and scroll down to the bottom, you’ll see the PDF: Mac Pro 2009-2012 Repair Sure, it could be a PSU issue, but I sincerely doubt it since it seems like the RX 580 is the go-to GPU for Mac Towers ever since Mojave came out, since it “requires a graphics card that supports Metal” according to this article. Unless, of course, the actual PSU is failing. Though I would try every possible alternative before pointing the finger towards the PSU if the computer boots normally with the stock GPU. Something I also found was this YT Vid that says “If you'd like to use your Mac compatible graphics card alongside your RX 580 for boot loader support, you can always use power from a SATA port from the hard drive bays convert that into a 6 pin with a SATA to 6 pin adapter.” I mean, it’s...
Respuesta a "thunderbolt 2 to usb adapter for ssd"@nan_c I understand the desire to have super fast transfer speeds, especially with external drives. Let me lay out some details for you. (1) USB 3.0 (5 Gbps or 625 MB/s) (2) Thunderbolt 2 (20 Gbps or 2.5GB/s) So, clearly Thunderbolt 2 is faster; 4x faster. However, there’s two problems: (1) I can’t find any hard drive enclosures that use Thunderbolt 2 as their interface. This is most likely because of the recent arrival of Thunderbolt 3.0/USB-C (2) Using an adapter would serve no real purpose to you. There’s only two possibilities with USB and Thunderbolt (3) SSD Enclosure —Thunderbolt2 Cable (20 Gbps)—>Thunderbolt 2 to USB 3.0 Adapter (5 Gbps) —> USB 3.0 Port (5 Gbps) (4) SSD Enclosure —USB 3.0 Cable (5 Gbps)—>USB 3.0 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter (5 Gbps) —> Thunderbolt 2 Port (Decreased to 5 Gbps) (5) As we say in the computer world, your transfer speed is only as fast as your slowest link. In both cases, there’s a point where your max speed is degraded/maxed at 5 Gbps, which is still a fast speed. So, I...
Respuesta a "Is it possible to clone my MacBook 13" 2008 running 10.6.8 & bootcamp"@nan_c Short answer: Yes. Although, it’s not super easy. The best way is to use Winclone which will cost you $40. You then should be able to clone a disk image onto an external SSD like you said, then restore from that disk image on the 2011 MPB. Here is the thread that I referenced: Cloning HDD If you need any further help or explanation, the thread should explain it. If not, drop a comment below! Let me know if this helps! -Alex
Respuesta a "How can I Replace the LB spring?"@xstar.arix Here’s a complete guide on how to replace the left and right bumpers. Although the actual replacement parts are not for sale on iFixit, you can probably find them on Amazon or eBay. Let me know if this helps! -Alex Xbox One Wireless Controller 1697 Bumpers Replacement
Respuesta a "It froze up in middle of play and now won't power on."@roscop123 I don’t have much practice repairing DS’, but it could be due to a bad battery or a problem internally (i.e. loose cable, motherboard damage, etc.) Reference the teardown and see if you see anything out of the ordinary. Otherwise, try replacing the battery If this helps, let me know! -Alex Nintendo 2DS XL Teardown
Respuesta a "What is the display connector part on a late-2015 iMac?"@dieselm If you already tried using a working display and cable, it’s clearly the LVDS connection port on the logic board itself. Especially if you tried them on another 5K. The only other option would be to replace the logic board. Getting someone to repair the board for you will probably cost just as much as buying a brand new board. The only time you might consider going this route is if the board costs $1000+ to replace, in which case you’ll have to find a Mac Tech somewhere. If this answer helps you, let me know! -Alex
Respuesta a "replacement parts for broken flexible joint?"Hey Martin, Unfortunately I cannot seem to find any replacement parts, on iFixit or elsewhere. I might suggest either wrapping the joint tightly with electrical tape and some masking tape or, for a cleaner fix, you might be able to get some heat shrink tape/tubing and tighten it up by applying heat from a hairdryer. Otherwise, take my advice with headphones: Whenever you buy any electronic, like headphones, buy them from Amazon and purchase the 3-year warranty (about $20). In the event they break, which headphones usually do, you can just send them to the warranty company and they will either send you a brand new pair or (in most cases) they will give you an amazon gift card with the value of the headphones when you purchased them. Example: I bought Beats Solo HDs for about $200 when they were new. They stopped playing out of the left ear. I sent them back and got a $200 gift card. I then applied that to a purchase of the Beats Solo 2s. The Solo 2s ALSO stopped playing out of the left ear, but I love the...
Respuesta a "Help! Why is my new SSD running SO SLOW?"Ana del Cid, I understand the confusion. The main reason you’re seeing those speeds is because your MBP doesn’t have USB 3.0 ports, only USB 2.0 ports. This means that even though you’re using an adapter that’s equipped with USB 3.0, it’s limited by the transfer speed of the laptops port. In computers, we say that “your transfer speed is only as fast as the slowest link.” To better illustrate: SSD (6Gbps) —> USB 3.0 Adapter (5 Gbps) —> USB 2.0 Port (480 Mbps) The fastest speed you can get is 480 Mbps, or 60 MB/s (Mbps is Megabits, MB/s is Megabytes), which explains your 28 MB/s As a benchmark for comparison: (1) USB 2.0 = 480 Mbps or 60 MB/s (2) USB 3.0 = 5 Gbps or 640 MB/s (3) MacBook Internal Storage Bus Speed = 6 Gbps or 750 MB/s In simple terms, when installing your SSD internally, your read/writes should see at least an 18x increase in speed, which will also be at least 5x faster than your HDD now. Pretty big difference if you ask me! If this helps you, let me know by upvoting my answer! Have an...
Respuesta a "iPhone 7 Plus "Disabled""Hey Theodore, I feel your pain. I’ve been in this spot before. I did some searching and found an article that lays out the top three solutions, check it out: https://www.iphonelife.com/content/%E2%8...-ways-to-fix-error-message-iphone-disabled-connect-to-itunes I would try the second step for sure, which says “Fix Disabled iPhone with iCloud,” this should do the trick, if nothing else works. Let me know if this helps you out! - Alex
Respuesta a "iPhone SE always restart"Hey! The spontaneous restarts sounds like a kernel panic, though the issue with the battery percentages sounds like the battery is actually the culprit more than anything else. Try doing a hard restart. Hold the power and home buttons until the iPhone powers off, wait until you see the apple logo appear again, releases the buttons. If you still have this issue, it’s best to take the device in for a battery replacement at a local Apple Store or authorized service center. If this answer was helpful, let me know! Thanks! -Alex
