I would definitely keep to 8TB as max size. I tried with Toshiba Enterprise and that worked fine.. it even spins down.
Leer másOk.. here I created a new thread to show how I both removed the files from a HD directly removed from a TC.. and then since you seem to have not read what I wrote on the previous thread how I format it and put it back in the TC. This drive is a 1TB WD from a Gen3 TC. Here is the drive plugged in via USB to a Mac. Here is the said drive showing up in Finder. Here is the Main Data files on the TC drive. Here is me copying these same pictures to the said drive. Here is the data about the TC drive from disk utility.
Leer másVery hard to find replacement .. The cable seems to be a one off for this unit so you would need to buy another dead TC to get the cable.
Leer másFan needs to be replaced if the RPM are not showing.. and the temp sensor might also be damaged. I just fixed one. https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenag...-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modems/apple-time-capsule-repair/repair-ac-version-time-capsule-or-extreme
Leer másAre you measuring with the board in the TC or just on the bench? I would expect the fan to spin with power on even if the board still failed to boot. Measure the power circuit on the board so you can see if it is shorted.. and not allowing the supply to start up. One of the best tools around is an appliance wattmeter.. which you plug into the wall and plug the appliance into it to see how much power it uses.. they show a lot of details.. and if the supply draws next to nothing it is being shorted and not turning on. Main boards for these will be a substantial portion of the cost so you won't find them as a part.
Leer másI have been waiting a while for one to turn up on my workbench. Finally got a chance to work on one. https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenag...-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modems/apple-time-capsule-repair/repair-ac-version-time-capsule-or-extreme Slightly different problem.. yours does sound like a typical failure of the Gen4.. If the drive and fan are running the unit is getting power .. but the board is unable to start. If you have applecare or can still get it (buy an apple TV and applecare for it) as long as the TC is no more than 2 years old it will be covered. Then return the apple TV for refund. I just pulled out the supply and replaced it with external supply. What I would do is try the oven bake method after that to see if it is a poorly soldered board. https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenag...-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modems/apple-time-capsule-repair/gen4-a1409-issues
Leer másI sell a replacement kit based on an internal 12v to 5v converter and using an external 12v power supply.. this is easier than fixing the internal supply and removes about 1/2-1/3 of the waste heat from the TC.. See https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenag...-capsule-power-supply-repair-kits I sell the internal converter.. for most people it is cheaper to get a 12v power supply locally for from ebay. The converter is cheap enough I can post around the world. Chris's method is very good.. we keep in touch.. and I have and still occasionally do that repair.. but offloading the power supply to me solves the problem.. and no fan noise is welcome. You can DIY if you have some skills .. look at the whole site there for repair type 3.. as well as other methods.. I have recently got some modules from China for running LED lights in the car.. they have worked ok but I have recorded one failure out of about 10 units in the field. Long term we will need to wait and see. Ray rayhav@gmail.com Melbourne Australia.
