For thick wool sweaters, wash in the washign machine and lay flat to dry - you're done. For lightweight wool pieces, handwash. Taking them in the shower and washing with shampoo works really well, be very careful wringing these out - do it delicately or bunch into a ball and just squeeze.

Best way to wash down garments is to wash normally (cold water, medium or delicate cycle). Then the trick here is to AIR DRY!!!! Lay that jacket out for 24 hours, THEN fluff it in the dryer, you won't even need heat. When you let the jacket air dry, the down clumps much less than if you dry it immediately. Less fluffing in the dryer means less wear and tear on your jacket and a longer, happier relationship.

The trick to cleaning cuffs is to get some McNett or Nikwax Techwash and pour the stuff straight onto your jacket. Use a toothbrush to agitate the area by lightly scrubbing. You'll want to leave the jacket with the soap on it for at least 24 hours, then wash it according to the instructions of the soap. You can also use Dawn or Joy dishsoap on spots that have oil residue - like the collars of your jackets. If you use this type of dishsoap you'll want to follow with another was in the gear soap (tech wash) mentioned above. Good luck!
