The college I attend is UMass Dartmouth. My previous college of choice was far too expensive, and the dorm rooms were in bad condition. I had to make the decision to drop the idea of ever going to that school, which made me worried I wouldn't be able to find a college for me. However, I soon toured UMass Dartmouth, and it was great for my career and had decent living spaces. The main reason I chose this college is because it's reasonably priced and I could visit my extended family who lived nearby the college.
My major is Computer Science without specializing in any particular field at the moment. I chose this major because I took a coding class using C++ in my senior year of high school. I took this class because I wanted to experiment and find a college major for me, coding in particular appealed to me because I have a passion for video games and computers.
Video editing is a skill that I would be willing to use in a future career. If I end up in the field of video game development, then I could be the person who edits the trailer. Most software needs an advertisement so it would be perfect for me. I'd be content with only coding though, working a job I enjoy makes me feel satisfied and happy, and that's all I want out of life. The idea of being a beloved artist or a respected member of my career sounds especially amazing, but I know I would be content as long as I was proud of myself.
In my life, I am the proudest of having helped a lot of my friends through tough times. A lot of my friends live more difficult lives than mine, but by being there for them I make it easier for them, and they appreciate that. My grades also give me pride because I'm glad to make my mother proud of me for being successful in life so far.
I've only fixed digital software that struggled to work on my computer. Physical objects I have never fixed, especially not ones that are electrically operated. Computers would be the most interesting object to learn how to fix because it ties into my career path. Game consoles are also computers, and so they pique my curiosity as well. The Wii in particular could be a unique one due to learning how its motion sensor functions.
I was an honors student in high school and in college. I received a $76,000 scholarship for the Rochester Institute of Technology which I never got to use because I chose to go to UMass Dartmouth. UMass Dartmouth rewarded me with a work-study award that gives me money if I work on campus.
Currently, I am looking for clubs to be a part of. I tried attending meetings for the Data Club, Game Dev Club, Tabletop Club, and more, but I struggle to find one that appeals to me and makes me feel welcomed. Using my work-study award, I work at the Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality. I feel the most welcomed there. Working a simple office job with friendly people is the best job I've ever had.
In my spare time, I enjoy video editing. I make videos that have my sense of humor and then upload them to YouTube. Drawing is a hobby I've always had throughout my life. Currently I don't draw very much, but when I do it's always in a tiny sketchbook using a black pen.
While I'm not a Computer Engineer, knowing the technology that builds up a device gives me a greater understanding of how computers operate. I've noticed similarities between devices and Java Projects, and now I can figure out how a device functions similarly to code. Different parts of a device sending signals to other parts in order to create a coffee machine or toy car is exactly like how different classes call each other to use their methods to complete a single task. This project is helping me understand Computer Science and that's why it benefits me.
I have three pets that were all rescued in some way, but my favorite one is my dog, Henry. Henry's original owners had violent dogs that abused him. One day, the owners left him alone in the house for a week without food or water. Eventually, Henry was found in the house and was saved. Henry would jump between different owners after this and end up at the house of my mother's best friend. Unfortunately, their household was used to cats they never had to give much affection to, and Henry was a high priority dog. He wasn't potty trained, he had anxiety and would tear up the kitchen, he would act territorial towards other dogs in the neighborhood, and more. My mother's best friend first gave him away to one of her friends, but he left for Texas and couldn't take Henry, so he ended up at my mother's house while I was a teenager. It was difficult for us to take him, as we were recovering from the death of our previous dog, but Henry needed us, so we took him in. Thankfully, my mom is experienced with animals, and I love dogs, so over the course of a year or two, Henry overcame most of his bad habits. He is the most loveable dog in the world.
