Who: Cynthia Replogle. My name seems hard to pronounce, but try it: “REP-low-gull”. In person, this explanation is accompanied by a move toward the floor and arm flapping.
What: Attorney for iFixit with an emphasis on intellectual property, President of the Oceano Beach Community Association, Vice Chair of Surfrider’s San Luis Obispo chapter, long-time vegan and cold-water surfer. I’ve also been a rocket scientist – actually, an aerospace engineer. I'm a writer too. My articles have been published online and once in ink on actual paper, just like in the olden days. I've mostly finished writing a young adult fantasy novel about a teenage surfer girl who’s given ocean-related superpowers by a merman and is friends with a selkie. Bonus points if you know about selkies.
Surfing in Costa Rica
When: I was born a month early. But ever since, I’ve been five minutes late to almost everything.
About to skydive for the first time
Where: The lovely central coast of California. I moved here because I fell in love with a local guy, who helped me to have the courage to jump out of a plane.
We have the most beautiful sunsets
Why: To make the world a better place. iFixit wants to show everyone how to fix everything. The OBCA works to make Oceano more livable, accessible and beautiful. Surfrider is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our oceans, waves and beaches. So I’m doing my small part to have a positive impact on the planet and its people. And I'm stoked to work where my values align with the company's.

Selkies are mythical creatures, seals who take human form on land
I also wouldn’t have bought this phone if I’d known how hard it is to do the routine maintenance of replacing the battery. Since this is rated as difficult, I was afraid to attempt it myself. I took a new battery and adhesive strips to a local repair shop, SecurePro in SLO, where someone who’s done this many times turned it around perfectly in under half an hour. No more range anxiety!
