Wow, in my search for a great fixable tablet, I thought the Shield or k1 version would be perfect. My original Nexus 7 was very fixable, to replace either battery or screen, but alas, it's just not performing on 5.1.1. So, I'm searching for a replacement tablet for light consumption and productivity, to complement my work laptop. The Shield had everything, good sound, performance, android updates, but that battery design just killed it for me... if they made it more easily swappable, then game over, I would have invented in one.

I have a Padfone S (international version, supposedly the same as the Padfone X sold in the states), which suffered water damage. I presume the logic board needs replacing and since there are more Padfone X's out there, thinking of buying a 'for parts' phone with say, a broken screen, and just swapping logic boards to make one working phone. Does anyone know if these logic boards for the S and X are compatible?? Thanks in advance.

I have a 2010 mbp running 10.11.5, just swapped in the battery yesterday, seems to run fine. system shows the battery info including age of battery and number of charge cycles (up to 2 now!).

So what was the reason given by Apple as to why the battery replacement did not work? I just replaced mine 2010 mbp, running 10.11.5 seemingly no issues.

My wife's phone just died as described by the commenters in this thread. Located in Taiwan, need to locate an LG service center, which is not near us as we are in a remote area. We relied on it for our home wifi hotspot. Initially I thought it was an overheating issue but after reading this thread it's obviously a manufacturer defect of some kind. Will see if a repair is affordable or if LG recognized this as a common enough issue to repair for free (I doubt).

All I can conclude with is that when working, the phone was great, but did heat up often when we started using it as our wifi hotspot. Camera is excellent, and it's responsive and fast. But reliability is a huge problem, and I will hesitate to buy another LG phone, unfortunately.

It's also helpful to know the various layers of the 'display' so you know which part to buy. I haven't given up yet, but my attempt to apply heat (hair dryer or sun) to remove the top layer of glass, which is held down with adhesive (hence the use of heat to 'melt' it a bit) was not successful. Ended up damaging the LCD underneath. Now I know I can get the complete assembly with LCD and top glass layer already assembled (as in this guide), so the heating process is not needed, just reassemble and screw the parts together!

Ebay is a great resource to find these various parts, by the way, in case iFixit doesn't carry them.

Suggestion for those like myself, who own Nexus 7 3G versions (the ones that use SIM cards), not the WiFi only versions -- Unless you are very patient and have the skills to use the heat gun or blow dryer to remove the glass LCD from the bezel frame, DO NOT BUY the screen assembly part listed here, which is the complete assembly for the Wifi version of Nexus 7, 2012. The 3G screen assembly is not sold on iFixit.

You'll see a note for this part that if you have the 3G tablet you'll need to remove the glass from the assembly, and reattach to your original bezel frame. I underestimated how tough that process was to be. I personally had a tough time with the process of separating the glass LCD from the bezel frame, and cracked the new glass!

Others have commented already, that the plastic bezels & frame piece, have different screw placements between the 3G and WiFi versions.

I found a complete screen assembly w/frame for 3G version on Ebay, for roughly $32-37 and will give that a try.

Ah, this happened to me. I have the 32GB 3G version of the N7, and bought the ifixit part listed above full screen+digitizer. All was going well until final reassembly and the screws don't match up. Maybe 1 or 2 of them. Just emailed ifixit support to see if I can swap the part, or if they even have this part at all. Anyone have a workaround for this?

I lucked out buying the G4 last year for my wife. The screen, camera are superb. Now I'm glad the repairability is strong. Now this is a primary deciding factor in buying a phone. I don't think I'll be buying a new phone for a while, even this G4 was second hand, like new.
