If there is dirt stuck in a usb port, what I have personally found to work is to get a toothpick (preferably plastic) or similar (Something that is sturdy enough and won't break apart or leave more fluff inside) and carefully scoop it out. I usually use a disposable plastic toothpick/floss and stick the toothpick end in to pull dirt out. For safety, make sure it is not powered at all. If it is a device like a phone, then power it off just in case. And if the port has any visible pins, be extra careful not to damage them. I am keeping my answer non-device-specific as it should work for any type of USB port and device. (I know original question is about a pixel phone and I have done this solution many times with my phones that have USB C ports to remove dirt, paper etc.)

I know this is an old thread but listen if you are having problems. Here's how I solved it myself with no help from Nintendo and a super easy method. My bumpers have not worked for over 5 years. both L & R. when I press R, it sounds like it has a broken spring while L sounds normal but also won't work. Today, I tried to get them working (With Success) by first, mashing them really hard and fast and pushing down on them. After, I tried blowing in the side really hard just with my mouth. No taking apart. Then I kept mashing them again and on the home screen to test to see if the camera comes on when pressing L or R. All of a sudden, after blowing, it started to work every time.
