Preguntas 1203 Ver todo

Largest Hard Drive currently available

What is the Largest Hard Drive currently available for my 2.4 GHz MacBook?

Western Digital's 1TB & 750 GB SATA 3 Gb/s w/AdvFormat Internal HDs are 12.5 mm tall thus not compatible.

I've found a couple of 640's but if I am going to invest in a new HD, would like to get the largest available.

Also, is 7200 rpm's better than 5400 rpm's (I realize drive access time is a function of drive speed, but is there really a noticeable difference to the NON-action computer user?).

You've done your research well. Personally I prefer the 7200 as the speed difference is noticeable. I'm running a 320 WD scorpio black and prefer to do my mass storage on external drives. I'd just rather not work my most used drive that hard, and drives fail so my time machine is updated daily.

Excellent points. I travel via air a lot thus having to use an external HD on the plane can be a bit awkward. I do use my iPod for some movie viewing but prefer the larger screen of the laptop. Yes, I know, pare down my traveling library of movies to a manageable number just for the specific trip...may go the route Chris mentions, 7200 rpm 500 GB. I too have had used Western Digital drives for as long as I can remember.

The small WD passport drives are nice and take up very little room.

Western Digital, and Seagate are probably the best companies for hard drives, as Mayer said, your right about the speed, but the biggest 7200 RPM, 2.5" SATA 9.5mm drive out there is this 500GB Seagate Momentus:

this drive appears to have a bad rep, so here's a 320GB 7200RPM WD Scorpio Black:

this one appears to have a great reputation, Western Digital has been my preference since the mid-90's.
