Why does my iPad randomly think there are headphones plugged in?

Ok so before I close it up I should investigate this.

I get no sound from the iPad because it seems it thinks I have headphones plugged it. The socket looks clear, nothing broken off in there, when I remove the ribbon cable, no change. But when I plug the ribbon cable back in, sound comes back for a few minutes then.. Presto. It thinks I have headphones plugged in again!

What can I do to resolve this?

I just pushed down on the cable about half way up and the problem went away so I'm inclined to agree. It does move the socket too though so I hope they didn't try to flip up the wrong side of the connector..

Mystery solved though, let's see what fixes it permanently.

Thanks!

Hello, I had this same problem. I basically opened my ipad unclipped the headphone ribbon cable, put it back in and presto Ipad was funtioning correctly, it simply needed some sort of reset. Warning be careful and take your time removing the screen. Those mid frame clips that hold screen in will break but they are super easy to replace, and the digitizer, lcd, and wifi cable (s) are connected to motherboard. So be careful, hope this helps.
