Won't detect SD cards
The camera says there's no card inserted. I've tried with different cards

It could be that the camera only accepts a certain format of the card. On your computer, try to format the card in different formats, e.g. NTFS, or FAT. It could also be that there is damage to the pins in the camera that read the SD card. Inspect the gold pins in the SD card slot to see if there is any damage.

I guess it was the pins, because after sticking a stripped wire in and using it as a brush on the pins, it read the card.
The problem is that after that a friend left me a contact cleaner spray and I tried it to see if it finished fixing it (as half of the times the camera didn't read the card) and after that the camera has not turned on again....
It is supposed to be a special spray for that, that leaves no residue and can not make an electrical short, but something has happened that the camera no longer works :( :( :(

What capacity SD cards have you tried?
The camera supports SD cards up to a maximum capacity of 32GB.

the card was correct, SDHC 8GB.

The contact cleaner does not leave residues and will not create a problem once it has dried (evaporated).
Did you remove the battery from the camera, before using the contact cleaner and then wait for it to dry before reinserting the battery into the camera?
If not then most probably the contact cleaner caused some electrical damage to the motherboard in the camera.
All liquids (except distilled water) including contact cleaner, conduct electricity to some extent and this create unwanted electrical circuits which weren't in the camera's operating design, to appear and this can cause components to fail.
You may have to open the camera to find out what's wrong.
@jayeff I did remove the battery and waited a few minutes before reinserting it. Maybe it wasn't enough time?
The strange thing is that the camera did work that first time that I switched it on. So I switched it off, put it in the case and around 20 minutes later I tried to switch it on again to take a picture and it didn't work and hasn't since then.
I did opened it, but just the external cover, to see if I spotted some liquid or some sign of electrical short cut, but didn't see anything. I'm no expert and didn't want to break something up. Also I don't know how to find out where the problem might be...
I guess I'll have to find a professional to do it
