Mircophone socket broke off from the logic board

Hi guys,

during the replacement of my display I was not careful enough and broke off the microphone socket from the logic board. MacBook Core Duo Display Replacement -> Step 27.

I insulated the microphone cable and I would like to know if there will be any problems with that solution?

Will a headphone including a microphone function work on this Macbook?

Thank you for your help!

Get a USB audio adapter. You can use it to plug in the microphone. When the microphone connector is not connected to the logic board it will not work. Adapters can/should have both mic in and line out connectors on them.

Thanks for your answer! I tore off the microphone including the socket from the logic board, so this solution will not work for me. Is there a possiblity to solder it with a soldering iron?

The USB port has nothing to do with "microphone port". Soldering of computer logic boards requires special solder, iron & skills. Logic boards are easy to destroy. Not really a DIY sort of thing.

Like MacUser, I tore off the socket from the logic board. When you say "Get a USB audio adapter. You can use it to plug in the microphone." are you also saying to get a plug and play microphone or that the current MacBook microphone can work with the audio adapter?

If I prefer to have no external mic, is this a shop repair or totally unrepairable?

For clarification: a USB adaptor will not repair your onboard socket, its a "workaround" you can use the adaptor - replace or professionally repair the logic board, or, use as is.
