My dryer won’t shut off at end of cycle. Still runs even when opening door. Have to unplug to stop.

On every dryer I've ever seen, there's a button on the dryer inside the door that would normally turn the dryer off when the door is opened. Is it possible that this button is stuck in the pushed in position? Have you tried fiddling with it to see if it pops out? I presume that the dryer will not turn off even when the timer reaches the end of the cycle. In that case, my button theory is probably not good.
