Door panel stopped working

After replacing the water filter and trying to run a half gallon or so of water into a pitcher, the water dispenser stopped working and put itself in a locked position. I held the lock function for a little over three seconds to unlock it, and it completely turned off. I can’t get it to come back on by holding the lock button, or flipping the circuit at the electric panel to reset it altogether. I have since put the old filter back in, that’s not working either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the make and model number of the refrigerator?

@jayeff - It's a GE, Model GFE28HSHDSS. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The icemaker and both fridge and freezer are still working fine, just nothing on the door dispenser.

Does pressing the light button cause the dispenser light to come on?

Just trying to verify if the control panel is still working or only not the water dispenser function, as you said that it completely turned off, (control panel or water dispenser?), although you did say that the ice maker is still working so presumably you can dispense ice.

If the control panel is working try getting into the diagnostic mode and check if there are any error codes, especially pertaining to the water dispenser or water inlet valves. The error codes are listed further in the manual linked

The entire panel is dark. Pressing the light button does nothing. The ice maker is producing ice in the door but I'm not able to dispense through the door. I'm opening the refrigerator door and getting it manually. I've tried holding the unlock button, tried the sabbath control release (holding two buttons, not sure which one's off the top of my head now). I also tried unplugging the fridge and that didn't help either.

After changing the water filter, I tried to dispense water to flush it out. While dispensing water, the water button flashed locked. I then unlocked it and it did it again. While attempting to unlock it a second time, the panel went completely dark and nothing works.

Sounds like the panel died or there's a problem with the power supply to it.

Here's the mini manual for the model series that may help.

Check if there's +12V DC on the dispenser board connector J2 pin 6 and -12V DC on J2 pin 4. The common is J2 pin 2 i.e. measure between J2 6 & 2 and J2 4 & 2.

If the voltages are OK then for some reason the board has failed. If they're not OK then you need to check back at the control board.

Here's a video that shows how to replace the dispenser board. The part number shown (WR17X26326) IS for your model.

If the board is faulty search online for the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.
