Slight water damage after small rain exposure

I had my laptop in my open backpack, sitting vertically (headphone jack side up).

The rain was quite light, but I only noticed I had my bag open after ~2 hours, so any water must have dried off and I could not assess the damage.

I’m mainly worried about water causing damage through the headphone jack, but I looked into the jack with a flashlight and couldn’t see any sign of water (it may have dried off).

Is it safe to assume the laptop is ok, or should I expect some issues in the future?

Thanks

Sorry we're not fortunetellers 🤷‍♂️

The only way to know is to do a deeper inspection, mainly to check the area around the headphone jack which is mounted to the Audio Board which has a bit of logic on it that can be messed up by liquid damage. At least its a replaceable part!

I’m glad it’s a replaceable part.

As I’m not comfortable with taking it apart (nor do I have the screw necessary) do you know how long water damage takes to show its effects?

I’ve been using the headphone jack and there were no issues so far, so I was hoping that could be a good sign.

Thanks

@user7438 - The chemistry of the spill is the issue at that point, while rain is thought to be pure H2O it’s far from it. It will pick up what’s in the air like dust, pollen as well as the gases and chemical vapors.

One can’t know what the rain you where caught in has as different areas will have a different chemical make up. Where I live we have a lot of sulfuric acid in the rain from the coal & oil fired power plants to our West.
