The Lenovo Flex 6 (14") is the larger of two foldable laptops made by Lenovo in 2018. It is also known by the name "Flex 14" and has the model number "Flex 6-14IKB" or "Flex 6-14ARR."

Can I add an extra fan power inlet to the Lenovo flex 6 14ikb?

To begin with, The Lenovo flex 6 14ikb does have a sister model, the 14arr. I have the ikb with only one fan attached to the copper heatsink. I would like to put the dual fan assembly into this computer without buying the prebuilt motherboard that came in the other model. The connecter to the fan has a female inlet on the motherboard next to the DIMM. it has a similar soldering pattern on the other side of the CPU

So I'm wondering if the manufacturer would have left that available for individuals to be able to mess around with. if this is possible, where could I find this tiny thing to be able to put it in my computer myself.

P.S. I know I need to replace the thermal paste, just ordered some.

Hi @colinrood

Perhaps first check if there's 5V DC power being supplied to the "fan" connector that you wish to connect to, on the board. Connect a voltmeter between where the red and black wires would connect to if there was a connector there. Try not to short out any of the "fan" board connections with the meter probes if you decide to try this.

If there's no voltage present (with the laptop turned on of course) then it may be more than the connector socket that's missing.

The part number for the dual fan setup is 5H40R19574 (supplier examples only to show fans configuration and possible cost.)

Interestingly the part number was found in the Flex 6-14IKB parts list (click on Select Commodity → Fans(4) ) along with the part numbers for the single fan units, whereas the Flex 6-14ARR parts list (click on Select Commodity → Fans(1) ) only shows a single fan and not a dual fan option and it is a different model to the fans that can be used in the -IKB model, so I wonder if the motherboard for it wouldn't have worked anyway.
