Playstation 5 read ps5 discs randomly
Hello everyone, I explain my case, which is driving me crazy.
I have a PS5 with a reader purchased in April 2022. For a few days now, sometimes when I insert a PS5 disc I get an 'unreadable disc' error, and the reader makes a strange noise, as if the lens carriage were colliding against something Like "tac.....tac.....tac...." XD. The issue is that the error with this strange noise does not always occur, it occurs intermittently, but it is becoming more frequent. You can insert the same disc at another time and it begins to rotate normally with the characteristic 'turbine' noise of the reader and it recognizes it without problem. There are times when it doesn't matter which PS5 disc you insert, it doesn't recognize any of them, other times it recognizes some and sometimes all of them. I know, it's crazy, because I'm not able to differentiate if it's a software or hardware problem.
I have tried clearing the cache from safe mode, rebuilding the database, and disconnecting the external hard drive I have in case it was creating a conflict, but nothing completely solves the problem. There is only left to format and reinstall the system software, but I have 0 faith in that.
An important fact is that it has no problem reading PS4 discs, so, knowing that PS4 discs are recorded in Blu-ray and PS5 discs in Ultra Blu-ray, I am inclined to think that it could be a problem with the lens... Or the intensity of the laser.
Any ideas? I will format it shortly, but if I don't solve the problem, how can I know if it is a problem with the lens or the reader daughter board (which would be a pain)? In your experience, could the cause of the problem be something else?
thank you!
Update (02/11/24)
@oldturkey03 thanks a lot for your answer, after doing some tests I found out something that blowed me out. If I warm the room where the console is, then magically it starts to read EVERYTHING.
I made a test with the discs too to be sure that the key was the heat. After a few atempts to read a particular game, I warmed the disc a few seconds with a hair dryer. Then the console read the disc perfectly.
The point is, I live in northwest Spain, and February is really cold, the room where the console is can be really cold at night, and sometimes along the day, when the console is used, the room before being warmed can be at 10 C° . So, my theory is that maybe the lens can be tarnished, and when the humidity of the lens is evaporated due to the room warming then it starts to work fine.
But even like this, it has no sense for me that a game works simply heating the disc. On the other hand, it is now when I have this problem. This console has always worked fine no matter the temperature. So, I was wandering if the lens maybe got faulty due to be exposed to cold and now it needs to be warm to work, but in the ps5 manual says that that the console ia prepared to work between 5C° and 35C° .
Es esta una buena pregunta?
@verjav maybe not faulty but it is definitely possible that this will be one of the issue. It could also be that there are issues with the laser alignment when the components are to cold. Grease may get thicker and things may kist not move as good as they should. Time for a heater or a fireplace my friend ;-)

@oldturkey03 maybe is something like that. I will keep an eye on it. Anyway, thank you to help me with this poltergeist ;) regards
