Hi @tygresfury

Try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s the procedure:

a). Disconnect the charger from the laptop (if connected).

b). Disconnect the main battery from the laptop.

c). Disconnect the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop. Go to p.40 & p.55 to view the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC battery, respectively.

When the RTC battery is removed, measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC or >5 years old, replace it. Search online for 665733-001 to find suppliers that suit you best.

d). Press and hold the laptop’s Power On button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

e.) Reconnect the RTC coin cell battery, reconnect the main battery, re-assemble the laptop, connect the charger to the laptop and try to start it.

If it starts OK, there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the above procedure has reset the BIOS back to its factory defaults. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is started. Any user definable BIOS settings that have been altered by you to suit your particular operating requirements will need to be changed back also.

Okay lately my laptop has not been turning on(keyboard light is on but the screen isn’t) but the fan was spinning really loud and fast as usual they say it's bad ram I thought so too but when I replaced the ram it still did not work. Now I’m being told it’s a bad motherboard and I’m still yet to confirm

@sekaniay

What is the model number of the laptop?

if it is an EliteBook 840 G3, did you try what is suggested in the answer above?

- de

It’s HP 840 G3, I couldn’t remove the RTC battery as it’s kind of glued to the board… and I don’t have or know what to measure it’s voltage with

@sekaniay

You can unplug the battery from the motherboard and test its voltage.

See p.55 of the maintenance and service guide linked in my answer above.

It's not glued down. You have to pry it out of a battery holder.

Read the guide!

I’ve done as instructed as it’s still the same
