My LG 43UJ6200 TV suddenly black screened

A week ago I was playing my Switch before bed when my LG 43UJ6200 suddenly cut to a black screen. I thought my power went out or something so I got up to turn it back on and noticed the red power light was still on, so I turned the TV off and all I saw was “HDMI-1” flash on the top left of the screen and the red power light flashed 3 times. This happens every single time I turn the TV on and off. The power button on the TV doesn’t turn the TV on, only off, but the remote does.

I unplugged it and waited until the next day to plug it back in and when it turned on I saw the LG logo screen come up for a split second then it quickly cut to the black screen again. This only happens the first time it gets plugged in after being unplugged.

I had my volume at 0 when this happened, but when trying to raise the volume with the remote I didn’t hear anything.

I know it’s time for an upgrade, but I don’t really have the money for that right now. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

@wyrmwind "the LG logo screen come up for a split second then it quickly cut to the black screen again. This only happens the first time it gets plugged in after being unplugged" you are not telling us what it does the next time you try. Does the screen remain black and does the power light blink 3 times again?

The 3 blinks is most common for a failed power board as well as the T-con board. You would have to unplug your TV,remove the back panel and do a visual check of the boards. Do not touch anything with your bare hands yet. Check the boards for any missing, charred or otherwise damaged looking components. After that, you do need to measure the voltages on the power board. If you can, post some good images of your boards with your Question. That way we can see what you see Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente

The LG logo only flashes the first time after plugging the TV in. Any other time I turn the TV on after that it's just a black screen until I press the power button on the remote where it flashes the "HDMI-1" popup quickly, goes back to black, and the power indicator flashes 3 times.

I'm very much a beginner in repairs with much simpler things so I don't have a multimeter so I can't check the power board, but I did open up the TV and will attach pics shortly

@wyrmwind let's do a quick check on the backlights. A simple check for that would be to darken the room and turn the TV on. Then use a flashlight and angle the light at the screen on different areas. you might make out some shadows or see a slight grey color. Your model uses an backlight circuit on the power supply board.

@oldturkey03 No, I don't think I see anything when shining a flashlight. Is that a good or bad thing?

@wyrmwind neither good not bad. It just means that your backlight strips are not the reason. Is there a third board where the ribbon cable from the main board connects to? Then there are ribbon cables that connect to the driver boards? We will need to find out if your PAnel is getting power. TRy to disconnect the ribbon cable that goes to the panel (always connect and disconnect cables with the power disconnected) and the try to start it. It wont come on but see if the behavior has change.

Ultimately, this "The power button on the TV doesn’t turn the TV on, only off, but the remote does" sounds like a bad main board but this is strictly going by the description. We'll have to prove it.

@oldturkey03 I disconnected the ribbon cable (picture attached for confirmation), when plugging the TV back in the LG logo does flash (video attached) but there is no flashing power indicator, and the remote or button doesn't turn the TV on (not on video)

I also added an Imgur link for a video showing the original issue just for clarity's sake

Had the same issue. It wasn't the power supply or the motherboard. Ended up being the LED strips. Bought a junked tv and harvested the LEDs. Working again. Be very careful as the LCD panel is fragile.
