Hi @mdrose

What is the model number of the refrigerator?

Seems as though there may be a blockage in the drain tube leading from under the middle of evaporator unit inside the freezer compartment to the evaporator pan located under the compartments near the compressor motor.

The evaporator unit is behind a panel inside the compartment at the back - access through the door at the front to remove the panel.

When the refrigerator goes into the defrost cycle any accumulated ice build up on the evap unit is melted and the meltwater drains down to the evap pan to evaporate naturally.

If there's a blockage in the tube, then the water backs up and can flow into the refrigerator compartment below the freezer.

Disconnect the power to the refrigerator and then access the evap unit by removing the panel and pour a measured amount of water down the drain and make sure it all reaches the pan below. Sometimes the blockage is caused by lint/dust build up where the tube exits just above the pan.
