I'm guessing this came from another PC? If it's got Windows on it, and if it's from 2015 it won't be Windows 11 I guess, then you might have issues getting the new PC to see it. If you go to Disk Management, can you see it in there, but maybe as a unknown disk?

@shaheel check in your computers Bios to see if the HDD shows up in there. If it does not show up in there either your drive may have some issues or the connections are not properly seated.

@jackacon no its an external hdd, it does show up and it says unallocated

Try connecting it to an older computer. It may not be supported by Windows 11. What device was the drive originally in, and can you ask your brother for specifics as to how it is damaged?

If the disk is spinning and you hear the heads moving on startup. it is doing its POST. If you don't hear the heads moving, the disk has a problem.

If it does its POST and the disk light is on, then W11 is trying to read it and cannot. It might have been in a Linux system, it might have a damaged ID track or it might be the wrong format MBR vs GPT.

You can use DISKPART to change an MBR to GPT. That program has too much detail to explain here. Look up the info and BE CAREFUL using it, or get someone who knows how to use it.

hi i appreciate the effort to answer to my question but could you be more specific as i does not understand a lot of things, this was my brothers old hdd and i asked what happened to it and he said it was damaged

if it was damaged, that would be a good reason for it not showing up. However, connecting it to an older system, it may show up and it may be fixable. It gets to be a complicated procedure.

Here is an explanation of diskpart

https://www.techtarget.com/searchwindows....

It may be able to see the HDD. If you don't understand it, find someone who does.

@shaheel this "it does show up and it says unallocated" changes things somewhat. The unallocated part means that your drive does not have a drive letter assigned to it. ther3 may also be issues with prior created partitions on it.

Let us know what you plan on doing with the drive and give us all the details from your drive. If you want to try to recover some of the files, you can try and do that with additional software. If you want to try and use it, try something like discussed on here This is not an endorsement for any software etc., just a possible way of trying to get this drive back to work.
