If your DSi is under warranty you need to contact Nintendo about repairing it. If it is not under warranty you need to replace the logic board/motherboard. Click here and chose the "motherboard" guide for instructions on how to do that.

My Dsi action replay will always say an error has occurred as soon as I boot the action replay up and I’m trying to get it to work for dragon quest IX so I can get all of my old equipment back from my first file and level up really fast.

Have you done anything different with your DSi recently, such as using an action replay or downloading an app? I've had this problem before when I leave the DSi on for too long with the action replay inserted. My common fix for this is trying to boot the game as fast as possible when the DSi powers on.

Is there any additional information you can provide about your problem? Can you boot other apps within the DSi? have you considered erasing all the data that is currently on it through the settings menus?

Since the menu boots, trying blowing compressed air or using an air blower in the cartridge slot, this may be the source of the issue.

Hopefully some of this helps!

Yes, the menu appears but that is as far as it goes, when I tap onto any of the following icons it takes me to a black screen with the error message on

Then, as ABCellars said, it is most likely an issue with the motherboard =(

It is not the motherboard. It is the Wifi board that connects to the motherboard.

The Wifi board is either damaged or has disconnected itself from the motherboard. Some times this happens when the system take a hard fall.

after having it for more than 3 years without internet, i foolishly decided to connect it and update the software.

now when i try to get into the "Deep labyrinth Digital Bros" icon ( all the games are there ) its giving me the message :

"an error has occurred. press and hold the power button to turn the system off. please refer to the Nintendo DSi operations manual for details. "

i have already formatted the SD card in the R4 card and also formatted the system memory.

MOST PROBABLY THE UPDATE RECOGNIZES THAT GAMES AND CARD ARE NOT ORIGINAL.

does anyone know how to restore to factory settings with original software without updates?

Hey gang, I recently found my old DSi and was hoping to dig through some old pictures I had taken. Upon launching any app, I get the famous "an error has occurred press and hold the power button..." nonsense. I keep seeing people say that its the wifi board, so I bought a new one online and tried it out with no luck. I am not sure what else to even check at this point, someone help me :'(

I’m having the same problem but for just ONE game. So I have 2 3ds, one for me one for my brother. We got them in like 2012. Every DS game and 3ds game works on both systems except for one game, Super Mario Bros DS. Ever since I had it, it never worked on my 3ds, giving me the error to check the operations manual blah blah blah. However for some reason it worked on my brothers. I would always play just that one game everywhere I go on his 3ds. Now, it has the error message. So it no longer works on both 3ds systems. But I’ve tried other DS games and they work, as well as 3ds games. I’ve cleaned the Mario DS gold pins, and cleaned the board. I’m just lost. I want to play my childhood again. The exact copy I’ve had for 11 years. And yes, the game icon pops up in the menu.
