Nail polish remover is more than acetone! It has fillers. Think how a puddle of milk on the counter sits for awhile the water evaporates, but the non-water parts stay.

So while the acetone and water will evaporate. There is more happening here besides the solids left behind. The plastic parts within the display are likely damaged.
