Samsung model NE58K9850WS/AA display dead stovetop works

Suspect display board but want to check other components. Where is the thermistor located on this model? Does anyone have info on what voltages should be at on which connector/pins on the display board from the power supply board?

Thanks,

Ken

The oven temperature thermistor is located on the top of the oven cavity, mounted to the metal frame above the top heating element. It has a wire that runs to the main control board.

On the display board, the main power supply connector is JQ1. The expected voltages on the pins are:

  1. Pin 1 - 12VDC
  2. Pin 2 - 12VDC
  3. Pin 3 - Ground
  4. Pin 4 - 5VDC
  5. Pin 5 - 5VDC
  6. Pin 6 - Ground
  7. Pin 7 - 3.3VDC
  8. Pin 8 - 3.3VDC

The power supply board has the main processor and converts incoming AC power to the various DC voltages for the display board and other components.

If the display is dead, I would start by checking the fuse on the power supply board, the ribbon cable connections between the boards, and measuring the voltages at JQ1 on the display board to see if the expected values are present.

If the voltages check out, the issue may be with the display board itself. But verifying the proper voltages are being supplied is the first step.

Matti,

Your prompt & thorough response is appreciated. Located the thermistor behind the display assy/board, essentially the area you referred. Measured ohms and it's not open. The resistance fluctuates a bit but seems to settle at about 2 ohms. Oddly, the power supply board doesn't seem to have a fuse, far as I can tell. My gut said likely display board. Based on reseearch, forums, went through tests on the chart that came with stove and components test good and ends at replace main pcb board. Pulled trigger and replaced "main" board but problem didn't change- display dead. Naturally the connectors aren't labeled, at least side facing with display assy removed but there appears to be only one 8 pin connector with red and black wires. Going to check for the dc voltages you provided. Stay tuned. Thanks!

Happen to know the resistance value of a good thermistor at room temperature? KSD 150LC is the part number. out of circuit measures about 8 ohms

From another service bulletin I was able to find:

Hello Matt,

That's the location/thermistor. Removed it from the circuit/oven. It measured about 8 ohms at room temp. After a few hours, reinstalled it and reconnected the connector assume that's power from the main pcb,. Turned the breaker back on. At some point the display magically started working. We used the oven a couple times today. At this point, the oven is possessed cause there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason it started working, Again, replaced the main pcb a few days ago and the display didn't work after replacement.

Thanks,

Ken
