iMac 2014 A1419 EMC 2806 Display Replacement

Hello iFixit Community,

I recently got an 2014 iMac with 5K Display (A1419 EMC 2806) with a "small" Issue.

The Display got a small crack in the right corner, which doesnt bother me very much, but it shows some weird wavy "ghosting" in the left and right side and it seems to burn in very quickly on the left side. The Burn-In can be reversed, but it happens very fast.

Thats why I decided to replace the Panel with a new one, but it seems there are multiple manufacturers for those panels and some of them are better than the other.

Can someone tell me which Panel I should get? Could I use one from the same "A-Model Number" like the A1419 EMC 3070 from 2019? It seems like they fixed this Issue in later Models.

Thank you all very much in regards! :)

There is a few differences in the displays as the liquid crystal material chemistry has been tweaked quite a few times over the years trying to improve the display.

So now you need to think is the better display that important to you? But! It will be at a higher cost! How long are you expecting to use this system? Is the investment worth it?

Lastly, you just can’t use the newest versions of the display as the driver logic in this series is custom to Apple and the newest models use an industry standard interface. Note the data cable pin count as that’s the clue!

So this limits you still further to only two options as far as I know:

  • iMac 27" 5K LCD Panel & Front Glass Assembly 14/Mid15 - Apple P/N 661-00200, LG - LM270QQ1 (SD)(A1) LM270QQ1 (SD)(A2)
  • iMac 27" 5K LCD Panel & Front Glass Assembly Late 15 - Apple P/N 661-03255, LG - LM270QQ1 (SD)(B1)

Thank you very much!

Should I take the B1 from the 2015 model?

I think I’m very happy with this system as I won’t use it for heavy tasks, maybe some light gaming in bootcamp and as second monitor via AirPlay.

@zarkhas - Check the display sources, look at the grade of the display (they are mostly used these days) and the pricing. You may find the better display is the older one at this point in time as the newer ones are in worse shape.

If you’re set don’t forget to accept the answer - Thanks!

I could get I cheaper because of a repair bonus in my country so the cost doesn’t matter that much, is the newer B1 better though?

@zarkhas - It has better chemistry. It’s not as good as the very newest displays. But your choice is limited to these two as far as I know.

@danj you meant “accept” the answer right?
