@davetec it could be the backlight strips in your display assembly or it could be issues on the motherboard. The common way of testing it would be by measuring the voltages on your display connector. Teh backlight will need a higher voltages. Your contact 1&2 on the display connector are the ones for the LCD power. Check the voltages on those two points. On pin 1 and 2 you should have 20.1V and on Pin 15 should be 3.3V. If you show that voltage on your connector, you know it is your LCD. If you do not have the higher voltages, the issue will be on the motherboard. Check your backlight fuse F3301 for power and continuity.

Download the maintenance manual from here It will be in english but you could probably use some translation software to make use of it. Get to the display connector and do some measurements. Let us know what you find out.
