Ive had my 3DS for years now but I haven't used it in a long while, pretty weared down now but its everything is fully functional. All buttons are completely working and push down with a click except the A button, its still responsive but it feels mushy.

This would most likely be wear on the ABXY conductive sticker. If it bothers you enough to replace it, follow this guide up to step 19. At that point, just peel off the old sticker and replace it. While you're there, it wouldn't hurt to check the rubber membrane and make sure it's still in good condition.
Here's one potential source for a new sticker, but feel free to look for others
