MacOS notification for Monterey

This the 2nd time this has occurred -- first under Catalina, until I erased the drive. It kept the prompt at bay for months on end, but hit has since come back under Big Sur (I tried to stay at Catalina, but because of Adobe I had to). Apple calls this an "expected behavior" when it absolutely is not; if I can wipe out my hard drive to resolve the problem and it's only affecting my 2014 Retina, then this is not "expected" -- it is a deeper problem.

In the past when I tried to solve it even safe mode did not help; it just came back. Even SMC and NVRAM did not help. What it took to resolve under Catalina was a drive wipe, only to have it come back. Apparently, the workaround is to disable FaceTime which is kind of low.

Besides disabling FT, is there anything else I can do that does not compromise a built-in feature of these Macs? If it wasn't for the old machines being the preferred choice for 10 years, there would be fewer issues.

Don’t you love it when the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing!

Big Sur is the highest version your system supports from Apple so clearly Monterey won’t download via the OS updater.

As Apple has gotten bigger older gear is not tested fully anymore so things like notifications not being blocked as in your case just aren’t. Maybe Apple thinks pestering you will get you to upgrade your gear.

Bottomline: Treat this as corporate Spam!

Eventually I will but these are too reliable. I’m still waiting on one vendor to get Apple Silicon sorted before I look closely again, or if it takes too long then I might just get it done.

If they didn’t make garbage for 10 years in a row, this wouldn’t be a common complaint.

@nick yeah, my 2020 m1 macbook air really just sits and collects dust, lol

i use a 09 hp 460 probook to do the job that mac was supposed to do because of there being no support for software i use on the silicon macs ._.

@timtomissus outside of one vendor my applications are ready. I abandoned a few which were neglected and replaced or just dropped them.

@danj I got my hands on a dual GPU 2015 and put Monterey on it. No sign of the issue on it yet. This is a Big Sur issue >_<.

@nick - The 15” MacBook Pro’s are not really dual GPU systems… only one is running at a time. The only true dual GPU system Apple made is the Mac Pro cheese graters when you install two GPU boards or a 2013 Mac Pro which came with dual GPUs, then the newer Mac Pros which you need to mortgage your home!

I assume you got a 15” MacBook Pro here, the discrete GPU these systems have do run heavy graphics much better than the Intel Iris graphics logic within the CPU.

Depending on the systems year you may encounter OS limitations. As far as Apples notification I can’t tell you if the issue is within Big Sur, I’ve seen it in other OS’s. The issue is the combo of the given system and OS.
