dpf missing, ash accumulation/soot accumulation error codes=check engi

Second hand import(2009 Bongo van 1999cc Diesel), came with a remove DPF. check Engine light. Error codes= Ash/Soot accumulation. How do I clear the Check Engine light?

Is the diesel particulate filter completely missing with and empty canister in place? If the dpf is original, it may be clogged and would have to be either replaced or cleaned manually to restore it back to function. The diesel emissions system is computer controlled using sensors. If the dpf is replaced or cleaned, the automated emissions system should reset the check engine indicator.
