Screen full grey after water damage, only when plugged in..

It gets full grey when I connect it to charger but dosen't when I remove, it's a 2 in 1 tab / phone (Asus padfone) I could try by connecting it to the tab but it turns off the moment I disconnect from charger, when I connect it displays full grey things in the phone, I'm ready to use it always plugged in, it's my old old old tab, I want to save it for nostalgic reasons but can't repair it as it's a old device, I have loads of others so my parents won't accept for repair..

Hi,

Have you cleaned the phone removing all traces of the water damage?

The impurities in the water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone's operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and is ongoing until it is completely cleaned away

First do not try to charge or to turn on your phone and then remove the battery as soon as possible from the phone to minimize any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. If possible do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better

Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. Remove the shields that may be covering some components as the water may have got in under there. The ends of any flex cables and their connectors need to be cleaned as well

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

Here is the ifixit Asus PadFone X mini guide that may help.

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional phone repair service, experienced in liquid damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

Hey, thanks for the answer. But, I don't this this could help. It would definitely work if the damage was new, let me explain my story. To give you some context, about a year ago, I accidentally dropped the phone in sauce. Like an idiot, I washed it under tap water to remove the sauce, and then I put the phone for charging. At that time, it was still working, and I slept. However, at around 1 am, I realized my mistake in a dream, and I rushed to check my phone. Unfortunately, it was dead.

Now, when I connect the battery to the phone, there is a vague red light. However, the moment I connect a charger, that light disappears, and the screen becomes gray. When I remove the charger, the light goes off, and there is no red light. I need to reinsert the battery for the red light, and it is the same. However, the battery is still alive, as it can power on my old Samsung Galaxy phone, which has a dead battery. I suspect that the power circuitry or charge circuitry is damaged..

Agreed after all this time the chances are low of fixing it

You can only try and see if cleaning the board thoroughly with IPA99%+ works.

If you don't try then you'll never know.

if you're into electronics, here's the schematics that may help.
