replaced both laptop fans but will not post

Tried replacing my laptop fans (both cpu and gpu), after install laptop wont POST.

troubleshooting done:

removed battery reset CMOS reseat fans

all done with both new fans installed and each fans while old fan is installed.

still did not POST.

Tried replacing the fans while laptop is on, new fans work, but old fans will shutdown after a few minutes. will do a restart but will not post.

any ideas on what is happening and how to fix this?

Thanks!

Hi @p_sj

What is the model number of the laptop?

What is the make and model number of the motherboard in case the schematics are needed?

Did you disconnect the battery from the motherboard, "before" you first replaced both of the fans?

Thanks for your response,

Laptop model: ASUS GL502VML

MoBo/Chipset: ASUSTek GL502VML/Intel HM170 (Skylake PCH-H)

BIOS ver. 306 (latest)

Fans in question:

old fans was 5v=2.25w

new fans is 5v=2.00w

that's. a 0.05A difference and lower than the original

OS: win 10.

Yes, Battery was disconnected while doing everything.

Laptop is currently working with old fans reseated,

Thanks again.

@p_sj

Just to clarify.

It is now OK with the old fans but not the new fans is this correct?

If so the part number for the thermal module (incl fans) is 13NB0DR0AM0211

Just wondering if there's a difference between the old and new fans as per the sensor wiring.

The battery and ground wires (red and black) should be OK but it is the temp sensor and the rpm sensor that may be different (reversed?)

If the motherboard can't detect the fans on startup it won't pass POST as the CPU is effectively "unprotected".

If you have a DMM connect the Ohmmeter across one sensor wire (yellow or blue) and the other to the black wire and check the reading.

With the rpm sensor you may have to spin the blades as it is a Hall effect sensor.

Compare to the old fans and make sure that they're the same and on the same "pins" that connect to the board
