Broken display cable connector

After removing the display cable connector, I can no longer snap it back into place. I dont know if the connector attached to the logic bord or display is at fault. Is there anyway to tell? Do I need to purchase a new monitor?

@allydelish, We would need better and more closeup images than the link. Use a lot of lighting, preferably a camera with macro functionality and a tripod (stand) to keep it still and a very high F-stop (aperture). The high F-stop requires a lot of light to pass through a tiny aperture, which increases the shutter speed greatly which makes it necessary to use a tripod.

@allydelish, It looks like you got the text describing the images backwards? Logic board connector <-> Display connector.

The connector on the logic board looks destroyed, as in will not allow the display to “snap” in. You’ll have two options:

  1. If you have the micro soldering skills and tools, you can replace the connector yourself
  2. Contact a reputable micro soldering shop in your area and pay them to replace the connector for you.

The job of replacing the connector is not a first time DIY job! It requires skill and a lot of fairly expensive tools in order to do it. Hot air rework station, appropriate solder and flux, replacement connector(s), microscope, ++.

Just to make sure, Are you talking about this image : https://ibb.co/nRL6p8h

This is the closeup of the display. The one with the letters & numbers is on the logicboard.

The cable on image https://ibb.co/nwJkB9p is removable. Its a picture of this: MacBook Air 13" (Late 2018-Late 2020) Display Cable|Shopping|SSC|Parts|tROAS390}&pk_source=google&pk_medium=cpc&pk_kwd=&gclid=CjwKCAiAleOeBhBdEiwAfgmXfzabITom8ea6kRULRPa7WGBmMotaMKHNeMZZde6PN8S8Iuc6p8p4oRoCDRwQAvD_BwE

I removed it and took a picture. I was going to replace the cable, but thought Id ask first.

@geirandersen Can you send me a link for the part that would need to be soldered on.

@allydelish If you could find your logic board number, I’ll see what I can find. It’s printed on the logic board itself
