Whirlpool Built In Top Control Dishwasher Arms Not Moving

Have a Whirlpool Top Control Built In dishwasher and the spray arms are not working.

I have checked to make sure water flows through them and cleaned trap etc. I need to get in to check that the pump isn’t clogged. How do you access it? I’ve attempted to find manuals but nothing shows how to access the main spot that pushes water through them. I was able to detach the back one tubing and that is not clogged.

Hi @dishproblem

What is the model number of the dishwasher?

Can you hear if the wash pump is operating when the dishwasher is turned on or it is only "buzzing" as if trying to rotate?

The water is pumped in, it drains fine, it seems to run a whole cycle without arm movement/water going through arms.

Hi @dishproblem

Assuming that the arms rotate easily when you spin them by hand there must be a problem with the wash pump.

It is the pressure of the water being pumped through the arms that causes them to rotate.

It could be also a diverter problem. The diverter directs the water flow between the wash motor and the drain pump at the appropriate times in the cycle.

Here's the tech sheet for the dishwasher.

Run the diagnostics and check if any error codes show.

If there is a problem with the wash motor an F4 E3 code should show. If it is a diverter problem there will be F9 E? error code (could be E1, E2, E3 or E5).

The parts list doesn't show the diverter as a separate part so perhaps it is part of the wash motor.

If you find the problem search online using the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best. If the wash pump motor is the problem then the part # W11521435 is no longer valid as it isn't made anymore (unless you find a refurbished one online). If no good search for W11612326 as this seems to be a equivalent replacement.

Hopefully this is of some help.

I have run diagnostics and it’s stating it’s the motor. Is this something that I can replace? The unit is not that old so I don’t want to scrap if we don’t have to. I’m having difficulty finding the actual motor part. Guessing the whole motor and pump should be replaced?

@dishproblem

The circulation motor/pump part # is W11521435 as shown by this supplier who also suggests that you get parts WPW10538166 & W10445975 as well when replacing the pump.

Scroll right to see Pump, washarm and motor parts diagram part # 15, 12 & 16.

Search online using the "part number only" to find suppliers that suit you best.
