Is there a fuel pump in the tank in a 1992 Mazda B2600I?

intermittently the Mazda B2600I pickup will start to loose power and when we accelerates it looses all power and back fires. If I shut the engine off for just a couple of min. the problem goes away untill who knows when. Thank you. Please responde back mags4gsus@cox net

yes, the pump is in the tank... no its not your problem.. you need a new ECU. any running, idling, staling, rough running, surging, starting then not starting.. its always the ECU.. it runs, then it doesnt... that tells me everything needed for it to run, works... the thing giving it the commands is messing up.. which is the ECU.. ive had 4 of these trucks and have come across almost every problem these trucks are known for. so change your ECU and you will be fine (its behind the passenger side kick panel where your feet go)

To answer your question, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, attached to the tank sending unit assembly.

1.Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable

2. Remove the fuel tank.

CAUTION

Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do not allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.

3.Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the sending unit/fuel pump assembly so it will not enter the fuel tank during removal and installation.

4.Remove the attaching screws and remove the sending unit/fuel pump assembly.

5.If necessary, disconnect the electrical connectors and the fuel hose and remove the pump from the sending unit assembly.

6.Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure to install a new seal rubber gasket.

The info is easily obtained from here.

Of course, do not forget that lack of acceleration, hesitating, and misfiring could all be caused by things like a bad Oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, dirty fuel injectors, dirty mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter. You also need to check the throttle position sensor, Crankshaft position sensor, Knock sensor, and manifold absolute pressure sensor. Do not forget the EGR Valve and the Fuel pressure regulator could be leaking as well ;-) I hope you get it done, just remember to do one thing at a time. Good Luck.

In regards to the guy with acceleration problem w/ backfire. The solution mentions all the possible things it could be other than the fuel pump. But with any of those other things would turning the on and off reset that temporarily? Cause I'm having the exact same problem

I meant to say turning the KEY on and off
