No power, no charge, shop says iGPU is dead?

My sister have this macbook pro, the one with only intel integrated graphics. One day it died and the charger didn't show any indication at all. We suspected the charger died but after trying another one there was still no indication on the charger led or the machine opening.

We gave it to an apple authorized service shop and they said the iGPU is dead, which came in as a surprise because I can't connect the dots for charger not showing anything or the machine to respond at all.

Any idea or known issue about those macs? I want to ask another completely independent shop too, but I wanted to take a look around first.

Apple produced two versions of this system one using the Intel integrated graphics engine (IG) and the second with a more powerful discrete graphics chip - NVIDIA (DG)

To be clear which model you have how about plugging in your systems S/N into here EveryMac - Lookup it will ID which model you have.

We will be able to see what’s happening when get some photos

In the meantime have you tried resetting the SMC and pram?

Might be worth a try

thanks I will try those once I get the machine back (sent it to recover some files because I lack the conversion cable from that special apple m.2 SSD).

When I had it at hand didn't though about reseting those, because I really had faith the guys at the authorized repair shop would have done this first :P

I will return! Thanks

We will be here when you return:-)

unfortunately this didn't had any effect, the macbook remain dead and no charging. I guess I will take a look on replacing the power board and if this is not it, I will give up and give it for parts (whatever parts can be used anyway from a machine so soldered).

@nitro912gr

I would definitely try that if you can’t find anything wrong with the logicboard :-)

@nitro912gr - Did you ty a second MagSafe charger? To make sure its not the charger, if you did then that's the next thing, given the systems age you'll also likely need a new battery if you haven't replaced it. Batteries only have at most 5 years.

@danj yeah this was tested twice and the original was tested as working.

@nitro912gr - Time to replace the MagSafe port (DC-In Board)
