Battery short life after replacement

I replaced the battery and it worked fine, then started dying at 10% charge, then 20%, now it dies at 63% of charge, reboots and shows 3%. It has been about 3 months since I did the battery change, and it keeps failing sooner every day.

This seems to be a gas gauge problem. There is a battery gas gauge component (SWI) near the battery, if it has been knocked off or nudged it will cause the problems you are facing. It used to be a common problem after a battery replacement on these phones. Usually we would rule out a faulty battery first but this component is easy to examine so we would check it and move on to replacing the battery with a known good one.

Thank you. New information for me. I had a shop repair the phone after the battery replacement, as it had other issues. I’ll run it back by them. Just now, it showed 68%, about what I’d expect with the use today, then it shut down, rebooted, and showed 11%. It’s been plugged it for about 15-20 minutes and shows 78%. Gas gauge seems like a good description. Reminds me of the electronics on British cars from the 1960’s with devices and lights by Lucas, Prince of darkness.

Hi!

Is your battery calibrated properly? If not, follow this guide.

Also, Mind showing us information about your battery by using coconutBattery 3 so we can understand and investigate the problem?

Cheers, Artem.

Artem, I did the correct “calibration” when I installed the new battery, to avoid setting a battery memory. I worked as a police dispatcher for 40 years, and did maintenance on portable radios as they evolved. I never had one deteriorate like this in all that time. It actually holds s charge while not being used, but acts like it has a discharge memory level that’s decreasing in capacity with each discharge. Only conclusion I can come to is it’s a faulty battery. I was hoping somebody had more info on this particular type of battery.
