iPhones 11 smell like nail polish - What is the real cause?

I wanted to switch from my iPhone 7 to the iPhone 11. I got 3 iPhones in total. Every one smelled strong like nail polish, alcohol and light sweet.

I was pretty sure that this smell came from some damaged battery so I replaced them.

Now the third iPhone still has this slight smell when smelling the charging port

To my questions:

  1. Is this smell really from damaged batteries or from something else (new adhesive, that isn't odorless anymore?)
  2. If 1: What the f**k: 3 iPhones and everyone has an issue?! What are the odds...?! Is there some production issue with some iPhones?
  3. Should I replace this third one, too?

Thank you guys for your help!

@zeniman where did you get the phones from? Any possibility they have been opened before? New LCD?

No, all three are 100% new and from either Apple directly or some big reseller.

Im having the same exact problem with the iPhone 13 right now. What did you end up doing?

Hi

This is really strange but the issue maybe to do with if they have been previously opened because I know that some liquid adhesive smells a surprising amount like nail polish

I think it may have been used to glue a battery or screen down as that what someone might do

To fix this I would recommend finding something cherry scented (like air freshener)and apply it to a cloth and give the device a gentle rub Down as from experience the smell from that stuff will knock any smell out of a room!

Hopefully this helps

Thanks:-)

Hi, thank you for your answer! All devices were brand new from Apple directly or a big reseller.

I read in some random post somewhere that Apple changed the adhesive product and this is now not odorless as before. I highly doubt it, because Apple always tried to optimize the unboxing experience and every new iPhone smelled like a toxic cocktail.

Maybe get In touch with someone at a apple store and see if it’s anything to be concerned about because iv seen many new apple devices and they usually don’t smell like toxic cocktails

Check the battery. It's fairly common for failing lithium batteries to smell like nail polish or some other strong smell.

Apple devices have a distinctive smell due to the adhesive and ink used in the packaging, and all the adhesive or solvent inside the devices.

Does it smell way different from other brand new Apple devices you used to open? If not, then there is no issue.

Yeah, this smelled completely different. I even have some other Apple device where I still have the "correct" smell to compare. I also get headaches from those smells, so I am pretty sure the smell is wrong.
