Mac mini 2007 dead

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a dead Mac Mini from 2007. But when I try to power it on, there is nothing, no light, no chime, not any sound from it. I took apart the logic board and everything seems fine. The charger is working because on the second one i have, it works perfectly.

Do you have any suggestions to measure with multimeter ? Because I’m used to laptops not Mac Mini’s. Thanks :)

Can you take a second picture so we can at least read the logic board labels and the cap if its still intact in the location it was located.

@danj hello, i removed the capacitor the motherboard is a 820-1900-A from 2006.

It has the same size as the others next to it @danj

@anthony10006 - Just because it looks the same doesn't mean its the same values.

Solución Elegida

Le problème venait d’un condensateur en court-circuit. Maintenant le mac remarche mais il me reste à remplacer le défaillant.

The problem was a shorted capacitor. Now the mac works again but I still have to replace the faulty one.

Have you tried just replacing the PRAM battery?

You may need to take the logic board fully out so you can inspect the other side. Look for a component that looks discolored or burnt. Often the electrolytic & tantalum caps breakdown. Mac mini Model A1176 Logic Board Replacement

@danj Hi, thanks for your fast answer. Is it possible that the mac could not turns on due to an issue with the pram battery ? Also, as i saw, i didn’t manage to find some dead caps on the logic board, the only thing that i noticed it that a ceramic cap looks weird near the cpu, it is a bit brown not as usual. So i used my multimeter to test for continuity and i have a value of more than 1100 on the line and this seems weird. Thanks

@anthony10006 - The older systems need the battery to work properly. I would start there.

@danj hello, i found a dead capacitor and now the Mac works. But i can’t find a schematic for this model. Have you got one please ? It’s 820-1900-A for the board model. Thanks

@anthony10006 - Sadly I haven't found any for the Mini's. Best to ID the cap's specs how about posting both images of the cap and the location on the logic board. Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente
