What touchpads can I replace my current one with?

My laptop has had an unresponsive touchpad for a while. It worked perfectly on some occasions, but then it was only responsive some of the time. Then altogether, it stopped working. I cracked open the laptop, and opened the connector, and then it popped off. I’m not sure whether it’s my fault for breaking it, but I’d like to replace it.

Anyways, I’m wondering what models will be able to exchange touchpads with my laptop. I’m looking at one from the M6-w102dx, but others would be good. Alternatively I can try soldering, but I have next to no experience with solder. Also, I’m not sure wether the connection was the problem in the first place.

Hi @kd8stq

To add to the answer search online for 858843-001 (supplier example only) to get results for suppliers of the touchpad.

The part number was found from the parts list for your model. Scroll down to interface module > ASSY, TOUCHPAD BD NSV

Jason Burk the connector popped off where? On the motherboard or on the touchpad? As for the touchpad, it looks like it is part of the top cover and it does not look like getting it separately is an option. In that case just get the top cover with it. Compatibility will always be an issue if you try anything different then from a m6 series. The ones from that series should all interchange. Download the service manual from here for the How-To and the part numbers.

The touchpad will come out really easily, but it appears that HP doesn't directly sell the touchpad even though they definitely could. (Dissapointing)

Jason Burk very much so. It just bothers the heck out of me that parts that could easily be replaced always come only as part of a complete package. I do wish you the best of luck with your repair.
