Replacing Japanese Key Layout to US one. A2179 Topcase.

I have a 2021 Macbook Air 13” (i3 processor) Model A2179 Japan Variant. I cannot find a Japanese replacement topcase. I wanted to ask would it be possible to just use a a US Topcase replacement instead ( Same Model as the Japan variant)? Asides from the hardware replacment? Are there any changes I need to do manually on the macbook air so that there will be no issues installing th US Topcase and replacing the Japan Topcase. Please advise

HI Dan. I have the replacement parts for my Macbook Air A2179 Topcase with the US Keyboard. D[image|2544825]o I need to reprogram the Keyboard Settings or do I need to install the program for the US Keyboard? Please advise. Thank you

The top cases are the same except the key layout as the Japanese one is ISO and the US is setup for North America which alters the Right Shift and Return keys.

Its a bit of works you’ll need to strip the battery if the case doesn’t offer one (recommend getting it with battery) Do make sure you are very careful removing the TouchID button Reemplazo del sensor Touch ID del MacBook Air 13" Early 2020 as you’ll need to transfer that over with the logic board.

13” MacBook Air Top Case & US Keyboard:

  • Space Grey Apple P/N 661-15386
  • Silver Apple P/N 661-15387
  • Gold Apple P/N 661-15388

Be aware these are around $360 USD without the battery which is another $130. Given the cost and the work needed is it worth the effort? Maybe getting a good thin keyboard skin would be better with the proper markings. Or, look at buying another with the proper keyboard and after you’ve transferred things sell yours. @JP Ampeso Just go into your keyboard preferences and alter the Input Sources schema to the U.S.
