It’s fairly easy to remove the display assembly, and then removing the trim piece across the bottom of the display reveals the hinges, but the hinge screws are obscured by the glass. Is it possible to remove and replace them?

You're pretty much better off replacing the whole display assembly now, since the grade A OEM parts are not that expensive anymore. Also, it would be hard to find the hinge itself as a replacement.
