TAB display issue longterm?

Hey everyone, recently purchased a used 2016 Macbook Pro 15” touchbar and noticed a thin line in the middle of my screen which led me to here diagnosing that its an issue with the TAB (tape automated bonding) as when I push in the middle bottom of the screen the line either disappears or gets worse. As of right now, it hase’t been too bad. My question is whether I should keep the machine and this issue won’t progress further or if I should return the laptop because the issue may get worse over time with moving the device around and over time? Thanks in advance!

Was the issue disclosed to you at the time of purchase? Was it visible within a few days of purchase? Did the seller offer a warranty and its still covered under it now?

@danj No the issue was not disclosed it was bought on kijiji but I did negotiate the price down to less than $1000 and its only been about 2 days. No warranty. I have already talked to the seller and he is willing to take the computer back but I did buy it for a good price considering specs (16gb ram, 500gb ssd) so i am wondering if its woth it to keep the computer if the problem doesnt get worse or to return the machine. Thanks again!

@danj Another option would also be to ask for money back to fix this issue. Would this be a smart choice and do you roughly know the cost for replacing the display when its all said and done? Thank you

The issue won’t get worse as long as you don’t twist the lid as you discovered just pressing on the display will effect it.

Living with it then becomes the issue, if its to the far edge then its more bearable. If its within the middle third it would bother me ;-}

Given the price I would keep it, then its just a matter if you want to fix it MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly wouldn’t be to bad a hit.

Yeah I wouldn't be able to live with most TAB issues. I tried once with a expensive panel, and I swapped machines and mirrored my setup since it was flaky and I know it will come back.

TAB issues are a early warning sign you're buying a display soon - one line is the beginning.

After using the computer today I also noticed that it has the original keyboard which is starting to give me some issues related to the butterfly keyboard recall (keys not registering or double-clicking) and the computer is about 2 months out of the 4 year purchase period to apply for the free replacement and they want $520 to replace the upper case. I think with these two problems combined it would set me back about $1000 to fix both so Im likely going to return it and as @nick said one line is just a warning sign. Im planning on keeping a computer for at leat 5 years so im worried even a little bump could escalate the TAB issue. Thanks again everyone!

@blckcarbon Yeah I don't blame you for a second. If it's cheap to fix I may roll the dice if the specs warrant the gamble but the rMBP panels are way too expensive to gamble.
