Switch HD from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo?

Hello, I am looking to upgrade to a 4,1 Macbook Core 2 Duo.

What I am wondering is, if it is possible for me to just remove my HD from the old (Core Duo) Macbook, and install it into the new (Core 2 Duo) Macbook and it will boot right up as normal with all of my settings and files still intact as if nothing happened?

Yes, with Mac's you can pull the HD from one and stick it in another and it will boot right up with all your information and settings.

So the RAM doesn't have anything saved to it that would be critical in the boot up process? Because that was what I was worried about. And also weather or not I would need to back up the hard drive and just restore from backup once installing the HD to the new Macbook.

Will any of these be factors?

The RAM is all temporary memory. Nothing permanent gets stored there. Your hard drive will swap from your old Mac to your new one without a problem. You do not have to back-up your hard drive, but it is always a good idea to back it up.

Mac's do not ALWAYS load the operating system when switching a hard drive from one system to another, especially if the system configuration is different they tend to kernel panic.

If you now have two machines, you can hook them up via a Firewire cable, start in Target Mode (T key) and clone your old drive to the new one using something like SuperDuper: http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/S...

Yes but the new macbook only has a 120GB hard drive and I want to use the same 320GB Hard drive from my old machine. I don't want to clone to the new hard drive because it doesn't have as much space. I want to utilize the higher capacity hard drive.
