The iPod does not turn on or show any signs of life, even after being plugged into a charger for hours. I have tried hard resetting (holding home+power), but it still doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t show up on my computer when I connect it, either. The iPod does not heat up at all when plugged in.

most likely a dead battery, you should try to open it up and see if the battery is either disconnected or even bloated and unstable. either way, it is in your best interest to get it replaced, or see a repair professional.
